Now getting to the idea of a medical check-up after your recommendation at SSB. The purpose of this medical check-up is to ensure that the candidate can withstand rigorous mental and physical stress of military service in all types of terrain, climate and geographical conditions and be able to serve on land, sea and air.

Now unfit is of two types: TR and PR i.e. Temporary Rejection or Permanent Rejection. Note: PR’s are rare and if one has been given a PR, it means there is some serious disease like Severe hypertension, heart disease like hole in the heart, perforation in the ear, cancer or TB etc. All other are temporary rejections and one gets a TR, in that case he/she will get two more chances to appeal against the same i.e. AMB and RMB.

  1. AMB means Appeal Medical Board and RMB means Review Medical Board
  2. Appeal medical board is given to a candidate as a matter of right. Here you have to deposit an amount of Rs. 40/- with the bank and a time of 42 days is given to the candidate. The candidate can select the hospital where he/she desires the AMB to be done. Here the specialist will decide your fitness or otherwise and will opine with respect to the disability for which a TR had been given to the candidate and not for the whole body again. However, if in the AMB, the appeal is rejected and the same TR is re-affirmed in the AMB, you may apply for RMB.
  3. Unlike AMB, RMB is not granted to a candidate as a matter of right. The candidate does not have to deposit any amount nor is given the option to select the Hospital for RMB. For RMB, it is the discretion of the DGAFMS if he/she thinks that there is some merit in the case and some error has taken place only then RMB is given. Here candidates from North go to AFMC Pune and candidates from South come to RR Hospital at Delhi. Time given is one month and the decision is FINAL. There will be no appeal against decision of RMB.
Major causes of rejection of a candidate are:
  1. Defective color vision;
